OUR SWIMWEAR DESIGNER 

Suzanna Kuhlemann, - the founder and designer of 1979 SWIMWEAR - was born and raised in Northern Germany and studied Fashion Design at the (F)HTW Berlin, graduating with the theme of abstract Hawaiian prints on Men´s and Women´s swimwear.

 

Her first job was being a store and then regional retail manager for American Apparel for four years, opening and managing the first two store locations in Berlin. After this she took the step of realizing her dream of starting her own business and moved to Honolulu to work with the Hawaiian print & culture that had already fascinated her for so long.

 

She started making Aloha-print bikinis by taking apart select original Aloha Shirts and remodeling them into unique one-of-kind bikini sets. In 2011 she returned to Berlin and against all odds decided to continue making swimwear - at that time being the only swimwear label in the city. 

 

Suzanna´s motto is timelessness, quality and a style of less oftentimes being more. She aspires to create classic pieces and slow, sustainable and transparent fashion.
